Karate Kid creator Kamen pours his wine this week at Tony’s

It’s not every day that you get to taste a 96-point wine with one of America’s favorite screenwriters, Robert Kamen, the man who gave us the Karate Kid, Taps, The Fifth Element, and Taken.

On Thursday, September 25, Robert will be pouring his current-release Kasmhir: a 100 percent Cabernet Sauvignon from Sonoma grown in organically and biodynamically certified vineyards at elevations of 1100-1450 ft.

“Kamen Estate’s Cabernets merit attention,” wrote Robert Parker, Jr. in the December 2013 issue of Wine Advocate, “especially from readers who believe Napa makes the only great California Cabernet Sauvignons. The two luxury cuvées, made, I assume, from the best barrels, include the 2009 and 2010 Kashmir, both of which are profound examples of Cabernet Sauvignon that could rival the finest from Napa in a blind tasting.”

A wine of this caliber, of course, merits an equally impressive dish.

For the pairing, Tony will be serving a Colorado petite saddle of lamb, with lamb-scented Yukon gold potatoes, and rosemary lamb jus.

“The saddle is the most prized cut of lamb,” says Tony. “It’s essentially a ‘porterhouse’ and its meat is the most tender and flavorful.”

“After tasting the depth of my friend Robert’s wines,” he notes, “I felt that they needed an equally nuanced dish. The saddle has just the right balance of powerful flavor and delicate texture — just like Robert’s Kashmir.”
